Identity
By Amanda May
Let them be as a lion
Always cherished, loved, guided, protected
But stuck in the heat.
I'd rather be a small, stealthy leopard
hiding in the trees like an owl.
To have been swayed by the reaches of the unknown
To live exposed to the vast madness of the earth
To feel soft as the winter's snow
To be the worriless pride of the wind
I'd rather be overlooked
I'd rather hide in the shadows
Than be a cherished and loved lion.
If I could stand alone, strong and free
I'd rather be a small, sneaky leopard.
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
